R-134a (1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane) is a common, non-ozone-depleting hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant primarily used in automotive air conditioning, domestic refrigeration, and commercial chillers. It operates at moderate pressures, is non-flammable (Class A1), and is generally used with POE or PAG oils. With a GWP of 1,430, it is being phased down in favor of lower-GWP alternatives.
